How to Verify an Acupuncturist License

How do I verify an acupuncturist's license and ask useful first-visit questions?

Sealed single-use packaging and a clean metal tray on a neutral paper surface, with no clinical branding

Start with the licensing authority in the state where care will occur. A license, a certification, and a course completion record are not interchangeable, so ask which credential applies and how to verify it.

What the record looks for

A first visit is also a chance to ask about consent, sterile single-use needles, records, fees, coordination with other clinicians, and the treatment goal being tracked.

Comparator checkRead separately: versus sham, versus no treatment, versus usual care, and versus another active treatment.

What this does not establish

A publication cannot verify an individual practitioner or predict their quality. State rules differ, and a listing does not replace discussion of personal risks or symptoms.

Before acting on this page

  1. Write down the outcome you hope to change and how you would notice it.
  2. Bring medicines, supplements, and relevant health questions to the clinician coordinating care.
  3. Verify a practitioner’s applicable license and ask about scope, consent, costs, and sterile single-use needles.
